Helmet Standards Modernized for All Individuals on a Horse or at the Starting Gate

Effective early in the 2017 Racing Season, standards for acceptable helmets will change to the ARCI Model Rule. Canterbury Park’s participation in the NTRA Safety Accreditation program required the adoption of this rule to maintain accreditation in 2017.

Please note, under these rules the caliente-style helmet (one of the more popular helmets from the past 20 years) is not an approved helmet and will not be allowed.

Any person mounted on a horse on association grounds and any person handling a horse at the starting gate must wear a properly secured safety helmet at all times. The helmet must meet the following standards:

ASTM 1163

EN-1384 or PAS-015 or VG1

AS/NW 3838 or ARB HS 2012
